Manners and Misunderstandings: A Jane Austen Film Series

Sense and Sensibility Movie Poster

Writer Jane Austen was stunningly good at portraying ordinary people in everyday life and especially at telling tales of women pursuing social standing and security.

See stylish movie versions of her first four novels on Thursdays at 7 p.m.

On February 14, enjoy Sense and Sensibility (1995), starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. Impoverished sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood fall in love, one prudently and the other with intense passion.

On February 28, see Mansfield Park (1999), starring Frances O’Connor and Jonny Lee Miller. Poor but morally upstanding Fanny Price is sent to live with the rich Bertram family in their country home.
